Educational Programs

At Sequoia Riverlands Trust, we strive to help the members of our community connect with and enjoy the natural spaces around them. We know that it is hard to care for something you don't understand. We hope that by providing place-based, hands-on, experiences, we can help cultivate a sense of belonging in our community, and foster a love for nature and conservation in generations to come. We provide opportunities for students of all ages and backgrounds to explore and learn at our nature preserves.

Our K-12 outdoor education programs are designed to supplement school-based curriculum and Next Generation Science Standards, to provide the greatest educational benefit to the students. In addition to being strictly academic, our programs also incorporate social-emotional learning (SEL) to ensure that we meet students at their level, and provide them with the means to grow and thrive. We strive to ensure that our programs are welcoming and accessible to all.

Partnerships

We also work closely with school districts and partners around Tulare County to provide mentorship and career skills to middle and high school students. Our education staff serves on advisory boards for various pathways, including the Porterville Unified School District's Environmental Sciences Academy, Tulare Joint Union High School District's Academy of Engineering, and Woodlake Unified School District's Academy of Sustainable Agriculture. We also work with other educational orgs and non-profits in the area through the SEED partnership.

Work-Based Learning & Career Development

We have also worked with high school students to support senior projects or supervise work-based learning internships. If you are a student or teacher interested in getting involved with us in a different way, please feel free to contact us by emailing us at education@sequoiariverlands.org.

Community Members

Students, families, and community members can also get involved by joining us on our monthly education and stewardship days, which could include activities such as bird watching, BioBlitzes, night hikes, native ecosystem restoration, astronomy, and more.
