Regional Restoration Planning & Partnership

The Regional Planning & Partnership component of Sequoia Riverlands Trust’s (SRT) Sierra San Joaquin Jobs (S2J2) Catalyst grant focuses on developing a Regional Plan for habitat restoration and other nature-based solutions, tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities of Madera, Fresno, Kings, and Tulare counties.

This initiative will build on previous planning efforts, integrating their findings to chart a forward-thinking, actionable roadmap for habitat restoration, resilient nature-based solutions, and workforce development. SRT will convene partners, synthesize information gathered from partners and other sources, and be responsible for producing the Regional Restoration Plan. Partners will play a critical role in plan development and eventual implementation.

Building on Previous Efforts

Sequoia Riverlands Trust recognizes the importance of leveraging existing regional plans, studies, and initiatives to inform the Regional Restoration Plan. Key aspects include:

Integration of Past Findings:

Incorporating data, priorities, and recommendations from efforts like theCentral Valley Flood Protection Plan,SGMA Groundwater Sustainability Plans,and local habitat restoration strategies.

Focusing on Gaps:

Addressing unfulfilled needs, such as large-scale restoration implementation and workforce training, that align with regional conservation goals.

Regional Collaboration:

Ensuring efforts complement, rather than replicate, ongoing efforts by engaging with partners like tribes,communities, other nonprofits,resource conservation districts, and local governments.

This plan will serve as an important bridge between existing frameworks and new opportunities, creating a unified vision for restoration across the central San Joaquin Valley.
