Field Trips

Field trips are designed to bring each student back to the natural world while participating in hands-on learning with activities that complement what they are learning in the classroom.

Curriculum

The field trip curriculum follows the Next Generation Science Standards and California’s Common Core standards in Math, Science, Writing, and History/Social Studies for all grades (K–12). Common topics include:

  • native plant and animal identification
  • natural history
  • native people and cultures, life cycles and adaptations
  • water quality and conservation
  • land management
  • and more

Kaweah Oaks Preserve, Dry Creek Preserve, and Blue Oak Ranch Preserve are open to field trips. Special trips to other preserves can be discussed on an individual basis.

“All of the activities on the trip were very engaging. Students enjoyed all the hands on activities and being able to take material home to share their experiences. They were able to connect what they learned in the classroom to the outdoor scenes.”

– Hannah Rufert, 3rd grade teacher at Elbow Creek Elementary

“Students were able to see classroom concepts applied in a real-world setting, making the learning experience more meaningful. The trip sparked excitement and interest in the subject matter, which will carry over into the classroom discussion.”

– Cecilia Moreno, 4th grade teacher at Waukena Elementary

“Every aspect of the fieldtrip was useful and it was a great refresher for students. These are all topics they will be tested on during state testing.”

– Sebastian Santillan, 5th grade teacher at Freedom Elementary
