Second Saturdays expand KOP access

Kaweah Oak Preserve is a wonderful place to hike or have a picnic lunch. But for those with mobility issues, or with a lot to carry, getting to many of the trails or the picnic area can be difficult.
So SRT staff will be implementing a drive-in day once a month for a trial period, allowing people to drive their cars down KOP’s gravel road and park in front of the picnic area. On the second Saturday of the month starting in January, the front gate at KOP will be opened to allow cars in.
Parking will be allowed only in front of the picnic area, and not on other areas where plant life could be damaged by autos. Once spaces fill up in the designated area, drivers can’t just park someplace else. The gravel can be dusty, so we respectfully request that you don’t exceed the posted 5 mph speed limit.
Picnic table use is a first-come, first-serve basis, and while you are welcome to eat a meal there, no barbecues are allowed. No alcohol is allowed in the preserve.
We want KOP and our other preserves to be great places to visit, and accommodating to all. If you have any questions or comments about this or other policies, don’t hesitate to contact us at (559) 738-0211 or here on our website http://sequoiariverlands.org/who-we-are/contact.html
