VERNAL POOLS: Herbert Preserve Walk happening March 23

When we have a rainy winter, the vernal pools at James K. Herbert Wetland Prairie Preserve appear, attracting birds and other wildlife.

Those vernal pools are appearing now, so we've scheduled a walk for Saturday, March 23 from 1-4 p.m. at Herbert. Ecologist Bobby Kamansky will lead the walk as in years past. The land is flat so it's an easy hike.

The event costs $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers, $5 for students, and free for anyone 12 or under. The preserve is located at the junction of Road 168 and Highway 137 between the towns of Tulare and Lindsay, We will have one portable bathroom on site. Carpooling to the event is encouraged as we don't have room for many cars. Wear long pants and sturdy shoes.
