DESCRIPTION:Gravel Bikes Only — 95% of the route is on gravel roads (not suitable for traditional road bikes) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRide the open road. Protect the open land.\n\n\n\nThere are places in California where the sky feels bigger\, the wind feels cleaner\, and the road stretches out like possibility. The Carrizo Plain is one of them. \n\n\n\nThe Carrizo Ride is more than a cycling event—it’s an invitation to experience one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the state while supporting the protection of the lands and waters that define California’s heartland. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, March 21\, riders will gather for a day of movement\, connection\, and purpose. Two gravel only route options offer something for both seasoned cyclists and those looking for a meaningful\, scenic challenge. Every mile supports land conservation in the Tulare Basin and beyond. \n\n\n\n\nEvent Date: Saturday\, March 21\, 2026\n\n\n\nCheck In Opens: 7:00 AM | Ride Begins: 8:00 AM\n\n\n\nStarting Point: Diefenderfer Ranch (Exact coordinates/address will be provided after tickets have been purchased)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy Ride?\n\n\n\nBecause open space matters.Because farmland and wildlife habitat deserve protection.Because being on a bike in wide-open country reminds us what we’re working to preserve. \n\n\n\nThis ride raises awareness and support for land conservation efforts that protect working lands\, water resources\, and wildlife corridors\, ensuring future generations can experience places like this the way we do today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat You’ll Experience\n\n\n\n\nExpansive views across the Carrizo Plain\n\n\n\nSupport stations with water\, drink mix & snacks\n\n\n\n95% gravel road terrain — gravel bikes recommended / road bikes not advised\n\n\n\nA supportive and welcoming cycling community\n\n\n\nThe satisfaction of riding for a cause that matters\n\n\n\nThe feeling of contributing to something bigger than yourself\n\n\n\nPost-ride lunch provided by Sequoia Riverlands Trust\n\n\n\n\nWhether you’re chasing distance\, soaking in the scenery\, or riding alongside friends\, this day is about aligning passion with purpose. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOPTIONAL: Pre-Ride Skills Clinic led by Bella Slosberg\n\n\n\n7:00–7:45 AM | Registered Carrizo Riders Only \n\n\n\nWant to get a little more out of your time in the Carrizo? SUMMARY:Wildflower Walk at Lewis Hill Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Step into a landscape rarely seen.\n\n\nFor one day each year\, access is granted to Lewis Hill Preserve—a protected site normally closed to the public and home to rare plants\, unique geology\, and thriving wildlife. This self-guided hike offers a chance to explore rolling hills alive with seasonal wildflowers\, learn from experts stationed along the trail\, and experience a place shaped by stewardship and care. \nLewis Hill does not have an address. Click here for directions. \n \nWhy Lewis Hill Matters\nLewis Hill is one of the few places where the Striped Adobe Lily\, a threatened wildflower\, continues to survive. This tiny bloom depends on the preserve’s unusual serpentine soils—rocky\, mineral-rich terrain that supports plant and animal life found almost nowhere else. Along the trail\, sweeping wildflower displays\, burrowing owls\, and a variety of bird species reveal how geology and biology intersect in this sensitive habitat. \n \nWhat to Expect\nThis is a moderate hike over uneven terrain and natural surfaces. The experience is self-guided\, allowing exploration at a personal pace with staffed stations along the route focused on geology\, birding\, and wildflowers. At the top\, kite flying adds a moment of lightness and joy before heading back down. \n \nCome Prepared\n\nUneven footing throughout the trail\nBoots or sturdy hiking shoes strongly recommended\nBring water and sun protection\nStay on designated trails\nFollow Leave No Trace principles to protect sensitive plant life\n\nPreparation helps ensure a safe experience for both visitors and the land. \n \nRSVP & Attendance Details\nAttendance is limited to protect the preserve. RSVP is required. No walk-ups will be accepted. \n\nCapacity is capped at 250 guests\nParking is limited; carpooling is strongly encouraged\nAdditional parking information will be shared closer to the event\n\nLewis Hill does not have an address. Click here for directions. \n \nCost & Donations\nThis event is free to attend. A minimum donation of $20 per person is recommended to support habitat protection\, stewardship\, and the continued care of Lewis Hill. Donations will be accepted on-site via cash\, check\, or card. \n \nStewardship Comes First\nAccess to Lewis Hill is possible because protection remains the priority. Visitors are asked to tread lightly\, respect posted guidance\, and help ensure this rare landscape remains intact for the species that depend on it—and for future generations to experience responsibly.
