SSIRWMP planning committee calendar:

Wednesday, September 8, 1:00 - 4:30pm
at the Tulare County Resources Management Agency

What is an Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP)?
  • An IRWMP is a voluntary, non-regulatory planning document that identifies broadly-supported goals and objectives pertaining to water resources management
  • It is informed by various pre-existing plans in the region
  • It is implemented by a united regional community
  • This integrated regional approach can provide a framework by which to address water issues such as water supply, water quality, habitat and environment, recreation, and land use
  • Millions of dollars have been allocated for IRWMPs by the state through Propositions 50 and 84 Grants are awarded through the Department of Water Resources. IRWMPs can help attract state and other funding for regional projects

What is the Southern Sierra IRWMP Launch?

The Launch Phase is the first phase of planning for an integrated regional water management. This phase includes:

  • Identifying and convening water resource stakeholders from across the region
  • Identifying and finalizing geographic boundaries for the IRWMP
  • Drafting and finalizing a memorandum of understanding for the IRWMP
  • Development of a Planning Grant Proposal to the Department of Water Resources enabling the IRWMP to be developed
